JAKARTA (Langkatoday) - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin has outlined three key strategies to establish a more organized and controlled transportation system across Indonesia.

"First, accelerate efficient, equitable, and sustainable public transportation development," he said at the 2024 Hub Space event at the Jakarta International Expo (JIExpo) Convention Center, here on Friday.

He observed that local governments have a strategic role in the development of public transportation.

Regional governments are responsible for transportation planning and management as well as controlling traffic congestion, he explained.

He also emphasized that public transportation must be affordable so that it can reach all levels of society.

"The use of digital applications in smart transportation systems must be expanded and transportation planning in the future must consider the environmental impact," he said.

Second, the VP called for enhancing creative financing and private participation in transportation infrastructure development and maintenance.

"Develop a financing scheme between state-owned enterprises and the private sector to support the development and maintenance of transportation infrastructure," he expounded.

He also underlined the need for strengthening the regulatory framework to provide legal certainty and incentives to draw private sector participation in financing and managing transportation projects.

Third, Amin pushed synergy among stakeholders to speed up connectivity in Indonesia.

"In order to connect all regions in Indonesia, collaboration between the central and regional governments is not enough," he said.

Local governments can collaborate with the community, businesses, academicians, and mass media in the preparation, implementation, and evaluation of transportation sector policies, he added.

At the "Hub Talks: Online Transportation Paradigm: Integrated and Online-Based" event, Minister of Transportation, Budi Karya Sumadi, said that all regions must synergize and collaborate in building the national transportation system.

"To build transportation in all regions, we need collaboration between central and local governments, as well as with national transportation stakeholders," he added. (src: antara)
