LANGKATODAY - Popular social media accounts Facebook and Instagram are currently down - with a "bug that blocks access" appearing to be the cause.

Thousands are struggling to access the social media apps owned by Meta, with the issues arising at 3:00pm. The outage is still ongoing and so far, there is no word on when it will be fixed.

Downdetector, which monitors outages across the globe, is now showing over 200,000 reports of Facebook being down.

Meanwhile, Instagram has over 38,000 outages reported, with most users complaining the app isn't working. A growing number of outages relating to Whatsapp are also occuring with 711 reports of the popular messaging app not working. This makes it one of the biggest incidents Meta has faced in years.

At 3:52PM today (March 5), Meta's Communications Director Andy Stone shared on X (formerly Twitter): "We're aware people are having trouble accessing our services. We are working on this now."

So far, many users have complained that Facebook and Facebook Messenger are logging people out, and then rejecting their password when they try to login again.

Many Facebook and Instagram users have dashed to rival social site, X (formerly Twitter) to ask if others are experiencing the same issue. One user named Cryto said: "Facebook is Down. Can't access my account."

Another confused user named Jaxrafferty shared: "Has Facebook thrown anyone else out? Won't let me back in my login." A third user named Hickman added: "Facebook Down/ Instagram Down everything in Meta down."

It is very rare for Meta apps to have such big issues. Hopefully, the tech team will be desperately trying to fix the glitch as soon as possible.
