Patrick Kluivert becomes Indonesia's National Team Coach

LANGKATODAYThe Indonesian national team has appointed a replacement for Shin Tae-yong. As has been widely rumored, Patrick Kluivert is the new coach of the Garuda Squad.

The announcement was made by PSSI, Wednesday (8/1/2025) afternoon WIB or two days after Shin's dismissal. The Dutch coach is on a two-year contract until 2027 with an option to extend the contract.

Kluivert will be assisted by his compatriots such as Alex Pastoor and Denny Landzaat as assistants. In addition, there will be two local Indonesian coaches who are assistant coaches.

Kluivert is a legend of the Dutch national team and has played for a number of clubs such as Ajax Amsterdam, AC Milan, Barcelona, Valencia, Newcastle United, PSV and Lille.

After retiring in 2008, the Amsterdam-born coach of July 1, 1976 immediately began his career as a coach. He started as an assistant coach at AZ Alkmaar, NEC Nigmegen, Brisbane Roar. Then he was the coach of Jong Twente.

Kluivert was also an assistant to Louis van Gaal in the Dutch national team when he finished third at the 2014 World Cup. In 2015, Kluivert was appointed head coach of the Curaçao national team for the 2018 World Cup qualifiers and 2017 Concacaf Cup qualifiers.

Other experiences include serving as sporting director at Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona academies, coaching the Ajax A1 (U-19) team as well as being Clarence Seedorf's assistant at the Cameroon national team.

Kluivert's last job was coaching Turkish side Adana Demirspor in the 2023/2024 season, but only lasted six months before being sacked due to poor performance.

Kluivert is scheduled to come to Indonesia on Saturday (11/1) and hold a press conference the following day. His debut match will be when Indonesia face Australia in the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers on March 20, before hosting Bahrain five days later.
